JOS – The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NASU and SSANU University of Jos branch have demanded the siting of Military and Mopol barracks within the community that hosts the university.
NASU made the demand following the continuous attack and killing of Unijos students during Jos crisis.
“We made this demand over the incessant and unabated killings of students and staff of the University by miscreants surrounding the university community”, the union said in a statement made available to Sundiata Post.
The JAC said the gruesome and unreasonable killing of their students started since 2001 and has persistently remained so till date.
“The most unfortunate incident repeated its ugly self on Sunday 16th August, 2021 and till now our students and staff are still being targeted for silent killings, with unaccounted number still at large”, NASU said.
UniJos said the insecurity surrounding the school has forced the union to make the following demand: “The siting of a permanent, formidable and Save Our Souls (SOS) Military or Mobile Policing Unit at the Joshua Dariye Park to serve as a quick response unit in the event of any breakdown of law and order.
“The abandoned Jos terminus market be converted to a Security outpost of either the Nigerian Police Force or the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps to serve as rescue point for students and citizens within town in case of any upheavals”, NASU said in statement.
