Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Plateau State, has said the party will not beg the All Progressives Congress (APC), to participate in the Councillorship re-run elections slated for Saturday October 19, 2024.
Recall that the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), has fixed Saturday for a rerun for some Councillorship positions in nine wards across six Local Government Areas of the State.
The rerun elections are as a result of voting irregularities recorded during the initial elections.
The elections will be held across a total of one hundred and twelve polling units and will commence between 8.00am and 3.00pm, PLASIEC had said.
Responding, the APC had said in a statement, that the party will not participate in the re-run, alleging that they were rigged out of the main LG polls that recorded winning for all the PDP 17 Chairmanship candidates who are now Chairmen.
The APC said participating in the rerun will end up as an effort in futility.
However speaking with our correspondent on Friday, the PDP Organizing Secretary Yakubu Chocho, said the APC should stop accusing the PDP of rigging.
Chocho said the PDP won the LG chairmanship polls because the Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has performed exceptionally well in office in less than two years.
He said before the elections held, the Governor had told the PDP contestants to go to the grassroots to campaign as he will not rig elections for any of them.
He said the results of the elections were collated live on radio, adding that how can the polls be rigged with such transparency.
Chocho lamented that it was the former Governor, Simon Lalong that rigged the 2021 Local Government Elections by announcing results even before elections were concluded.
He said the October 19th rerun elections will go on with or without the APC, as PLASIEC is only fulfilling the electoral law.
