The police in Ogun state have discovered a market where human body parts are being sold and eaten by ritualists.
The discovery by the police has led to the arrest of five suspects.
They also found decomposing body parts alleged to be those of Morenikeji Owolabi, a missing female student of the Science Laboratory Technology department at Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade.
Val Ntomchukwu, the state commissioner of police, said the key suspect, who is a herbalist identified as Femi Awise, is still at large.
The police commissioner also revealed that five suspects, including a commercial motorcyclist who transported the victim to the scene, have been detained and will be arraigned in court upon the completion of the police inquiry.
The suspects, who were arrested at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Isara-Remo, are Adeyemi Ademolu, 29, Lateef Ali, 23, Dare Akinyemi, 22, Wasiu Sotola, 23 and Taiwo Omolaso, 22.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Human parts that were cut into pieces and seemingly cooked were seen in one black pot, while the whole limb of the victim was seen in a nearby shallow grave.
The smell emanating from the place did not stop scores of people in the town and its environs thronging to the shrine to catch a glimpse of the discovery.
“What we want to tell the public is that they should monitor the movement of their wards and children, especially when they are left in school and other public institutions. They should always keep watch over their children, call them regularly and where they don’t see them, they should quickly report to the police.” Ntomchukwu said.
There was speculation recently that a certain restaurant in Awka has been serving their customers human meat. But later the police dismissed the speculation.
