Lagos – Feyisetan Are, Head Coach of Nigeria Para-Powerlifting Federation (NPPF), on Thursday departed the country for an international power-lifting coaching course in Budapest, Hungary.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos before departure that the training was a four-day programme, and would end on Tuesday.
Are expressed gratitude to the National Sports Commission for sponsoring the training being organised by International Paralympics Committee (IPC).
“The Olympics is coming up next year and as a coach, this is an opportunity for me to upgrade my technical ability.
“I really appreciate the immense support of the NSC for identifying me and ensuring that I participate in the training, which has been one of my desires,’’ he said.
The coach said that on return, his objective would be to train new set of power lifters in all categories for international competitions.
According to him, this will reduce fielding of same set of lifters to represent the country in competitions.
“We have talents in this sport and I have the ambition of developing more talented lifters to expose them to competitions whenever the opportunity comes,’’ he said.
Are noted that the nation was ranked number one in the world due to its impressive performances at international championships, adding that the tempo would be sustained.
“At the World Championships held in Dubai in April and World Open Asia Championships in August, we topped the medal table and the records are there for confirmation.
