The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of recruiting thugs to instigate violence during the ongoing #EndBadGovernance nationwide protest.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, made the claims in Abuja, during the first day of the citizen-led hunger protests being held across major cities in Nigeria.
Ologunagba asserted that the nationwide protest would have been averted if the APC-led government had dropped its insensitivity and shown sincere commitment to the citizens by addressing the current hardship occasioned by its ill-implemented policies.
According to the PDP chieftain, there is hunger and poverty, and further called on the Federal Government to immediately review all its anti-people policies that are “suffocating lives in the country.”
Ologunagba said that Nigerians expect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the nation amid the ongoing protest personally, announce major policy reviews, and order an investigation into the alleged looting of subsidy and palliative funds.
He added, “There is hunger and destitution in the land. The reaction of hungry people is better imagined! Mr President, please act now.
“Sadly, these counsels did not receive the expected consideration, resulting in the current situation.
“It is alarming that instead of engaging Nigerians and addressing their concerns, the APC recruited hoodlums to instigate violence to justify a clampdown and the killing of innocent Nigerians.
“The APC is completely insensitive to the fact that more than 120 million Nigerians have become destitute and can no longer afford their daily meals and other necessities of life as the poverty rate soars to over 40% because of the life-discounting policies of the APC administration.”
