Abuja- The House of Representatives on Thursday, urged the Federal Government to relocate Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from their camps in schools in Borno ahead of next academic session.
The house made the call after the members unanimously adopted a motion by Rep. Asabe Bashir (Borno-APC) on need for schools to reopen in the troubled state and for IDPs quartered in them, tlo be relocated.
The motion was unanimously adopted by members during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.
Bashir explained that as a result of activities of insurgents, the state government re-settled the IDPs in schools and at National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps.
She said that the emergence of Boko Haram in 2009 led to the killing of thousands of people in the state and displacement of many others.
She said that the situation led to the closure of schools for more than one year, leaving the students to idle away and exposed to social vices.
Bashir stressed that there was an urgent need for the Federal Government to assist the government in building and rehabilitating schools destroyed to enable them to reopen.
The house, therefore, urged the state government to urgently construct temporary camps for the IDPs so that they could be evacuated from the schools before the commencement of the academic session in September.
It also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to provide well-equipped mobile clinics for the displaced people.
It explained that the clinics would give prompt medical attention to victims of bomb blasts and attacks by the insurgents.
