Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Managing Director of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED), Engr. Abdu Mohammed, has said demoralization of staff for optimal performance was due to stagnation of promotion over the years, thereby affecting the growth of the company.
To change this narrative, JED endorsed the promotion of 1,600 staff, Engr Mohammed said in Jos on Thursday, during a Board room meeting.
Speaking in a statement signed by the Head Corporate Communication of the Company, Dr Friday Elijah, Mohammed said that the energy company has also created four additional region aimd at bringing services closer to the consumers.
He said that JED has also recruited more staff to beef up the existing gap.
According to him: “More staff have been recruited to beef up the existing gap. I think we are doing well to boost the economic fortune of the company.
“We decided to promote or advance virtually all the staff that had stagnated since the inception of the company in 2013.
“We realized after painstaking research that a lot of staffers were demotivated due to lack of promotion or advancement.
“So many staff were denied promotion for upward of eight years and this situation contributing negatively to the performance of the company.
“It was obvious that staff were disenchanted with the situation and therefore exhibited a high premium of lackadaisical attitude to the revenue collection of the company by refusing to take ownership of their job roles”, he said.
“I am optimistic that with this elevation, the company’s fortune would improve tremendously.
“When things begin to improve, all the critical stakeholders including the staff would have reasons to smile and be proud of working with us.
“We have also created four new regions to bring the services of the company nearer to the customers and this brings to the fore a total of 12 regions.
“The newly created regions are Yelwa from Bauchi State, Tudun Wada from Bukuru in Plateau State, Doma from Gombe State and West of Mines from Jos Metro”, the statement reads.
