ASABA – The President of Rotary Club of Asaba GRA, Rotarian Otemu Akpodiete, has pledged support for the state government in the area of water and sanitation.
Akpodiete told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after his inauguration in Asaba on Saturday that the club was committed to eradicating all forms of diseases that inhibited human ability and capability.
He said the club was committed to assisting the state government in various areas including the provision of potable water in schools to ensure proper sanitation.
Akpodiete said that he would continue and complete projects and programmes initiated by his predecessor.
“Some of the projects initiated by my predecessor will be upgraded and completed to make them more enduring for the communities.
“We will build more water projects and get them connected to the toilet facilities built in some of the schools to improve the sanitation in such areas.

“We shall also pursue and improve the libraries and laboratories of some secondary schools and also assist the old people whose children and relatives have abandoned to give them a lease of life,” the president said.
Earlier, the former President, Rotarian Celestina Kalu, urged the new leadership to carry everyone along to succeed.
She noted that the club built toilets in schools, donated reading materials and delivered career talks to secondary school students, among others.
Kalu said the club won six national and international awards for hard work and service to humanity during her tenure.
She noted that as the first woman to preside over the affairs of the club, she faced several challenges.
“I thank God that the initial challenge spurred me to put in my best and today, I have proved my ability as an accomplished woman and leader.
“In my tenure, we won six awards for hard work and commitment to service to humanity,” Kalu said. (NAN)
