SOKOTO – The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) command in Sokoto State has said it had mobilised no fewer than180 marshals around the state to ensure accident-free roads during the Eid-el-Fitri celebrations.
The Head of Operations in the command, Mr Aliyu Daudawa, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Friday.
Daudawa said that the marshals, comprised of 140 special and 40 regular, had been assigned to various highways within and outside the state capital.
He said that 50 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Road Safety Club had also been mobilised to support the marshals in ensuring the success of the Sallah period’s operations.[eap_ad_2]
He said that the mobilisation of the officials and the NYSC members had been concluded because the commission was determined to maintain traffic order before, during and after the celebration.
Daudawa explained that the command had issued operational guidelines to the officials on how to prevent heavy traffic around the 11 designated Eid-el-Fitri praying grounds in the state capital.
He urged motorists to cooperate with the officials to ensure smooth conduct of traffic, warning that motorists found contravening traffic rules, especially violating one-way regulation, would be arrested and prosecuted.’’
He also warned parents not to allow their underage children to drive, adding that anyone found wanting in that regard would be dealt with according to the law. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
