In Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, a heartrending incident unfolded as a stray dog, allegedly searching for sustenance, stumbled upon a baby boy abandoned in the forest.
Reports indicate that the infant had been left in a plastic bag amidst the foliage for approximately two days before the canine discovered him. Remarkably, the dog carried the baby across a busy road and placed him in a conspicuous location, likely seeking assistance from passersby.
A witness shared, “The dog found the baby in a plastic bag in which he was abandoned in the forest. From what we saw, the baby may have been abandoned in the forest for about two days before the dog discovered it.” Fortunately, the baby was found in stable condition.
A circulating video online captured local midwives tending to the newborn, expressing outrage at the callousness of those responsible for the abandonment. They lamented the irony of carrying a child for nine months only to discard them.
While commending the divine intervention that spared the infant from harm, they urged anyone facing a similar situation to seek help from compassionate individuals rather than resorting to abandonment.
Efforts to obtain a statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
