MAIDUGURI – The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn-Garbai, on Monday, advised the new Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, to be transparent in discharging his duties.
Ibn-Garbai gave the advice at a send off party for the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Mala Daura, in Maiduguri.
He also urged Njodi to strive hard to achieve more than what his predecessor did for the university.
He said “the send off for Prof. Mala Daura is an honour by the university community because of his achievements.
“We are proud to be associated with his successful tenure due mainly to the fact that he is a level headed personality.
“I also want to commend and congratulate the energetic new Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi.
“We welcome him in good faith and urge him to be transparent and maintain the standard set by his predecessor.’’
Ibn-Garbai, who said that UNIMAID was one of the best universities in Nigeria, added that “the institution is one of the respected peaceful institutions in the country.’’
He appealed to lecturers who left the university for greener pastures or due to security challenges to return as things were generally improving in the state.
He advised both academic and non academic staff unions in the university to work toward moving the institution forward.
He called for prayers, especially for the safe return of the abducted Chibok girls.
In his remarks, the new vice chancellor pledged to work toward maintaining the current academic standard in the institution.
He said that the university administration would focus on teaching, learning and research, adding that “like every centre of learning, we will focus on teaching, learning and research.”
Njodi, who assumed office on June 3, described his appointment as an act of God, noting that “the university belongs to all of us, regardless of any affiliation.’’
The former vice chancellor promised to support Njodi to enable him to succeed. (NAN)
