LEON – Police on Tuesday arrested two women in Leon, suspected of shooting a 59-year-old politician of Spain’s ruling party in the northern city of Leon.
Police official said the victim Isabel Carrasco, Provincial Assembly President was pronounced dead at hospital after being shot on a footbridge near her home.
It said Carrasco was walking to a meeting at the office of her party when the attacked occurred.
It said the suspects were identified as the wife and daughter of a municipal police chief.
It said preliminary investigation revealed that one of the women was recently fired from a job with the provincial council.
A response from the Ministry of Interior, in Madrid stated that all signs pointed to a theory of personal vengeance. (dpa/NAN)
