BEIJING – An earthquake of seven magnitude jolted the sea off the coast of Papua New Guinea at 3:07 p.m. Beijing Time on Friday, according to China Earthquake Networks Centre.
The epicentre, with a focal depth of 50 km, was initially determined to be at 6.6 degrees south latitude and 155 degrees east longitude.
The Tsunami Warning Centre of the State Oceanic Administration said in a statement that tsunami is expected after the quake in areas near the epicentre.
The tsunami is unlikely to cause disastrous effect on China, it adds. (Xinhua/NAN)
