Abuja (SundiataPost)- Students under the aegis of the National Association of Kaduna State Students (NAKASS) have reportedly warned Kaduna state government to pay their three scholarship allowances or they shut down the state’s institutions.
While speaking at a press briefing in the state, the Secretary-General of the students association, Jeremiah Gwaza said if the government fails to pay their scholarship allowance before the ultimatum expires, they’ll have no choice but to shut down the institutions.
The students said they are studying under intense frustration since the government stopped paying the scholarship.
Gwaza also demanded the immediate reversal of the new scholarship scheme saying it’s very unrealistic.
He said, “It has been three (3) academic sessions now without a penny from the state government to help Kaduna State Students augment the high cost of living in most school environment around the country.
“This has brought a perilous experience to a lot of students, as a result of this ordeal over 73,632 students are subjected to various forms of hardship and challenges ranging from tuition fees which have led to deferment of sessions, Semester and in some cases even withdrawal,”
The students also demanded the refund of 500 Naira they allegedly paid to the State Scholarship Board to purchase scholarship forms which according to them was never granted.
However, the ultimatum issued to the state government will expire on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
