Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Nigerian singer Terry G, whose real name is Gabriel Oche Amanyi, has voiced his displeasure over being compared to controversial artist Portable.
On Monday, Terry G took to X to express his frustration, calling the comparisons disrespectful while highlighting his lasting influence in the music industry. He underscored the fact that his music has endured for over a decade, continuing to resonate with fans, which he feels sets him apart from Portable.
He posted, “Comparing me to Portable is disrespectful because I actually have music people listen to 10 years later.”
Known for his high-energy, eclectic style, Terry G made a name for himself with tracks like “Akpako” and “Free Madness.” His music, which blends Afrobeats, dancehall, and street-hop, has made him a polarizing figure, with his bold lyrics and outspoken persona capturing the attention of both fans and critics.
Though both artists share a similar sound and fashion, blending Galala rhythms with White Garment influences and Hip Hop, Terry G and Portable have previously collaborated. Terry G featured on Portable’s track “Ogbafia,” and both artists were involved in C Prince’s song “Koba.” Despite their professional ties, Terry G believes the comparisons between them are unfair.
