A statement from the bureau said that the king had been receiving treatment since Sept. 3 after X Rays found he had an inflamed lung and a blood test showed he had an infection.

The statement added that the monarch had responded well to treatment and that his heartbeat and blood pressure were back to normal.

Bhumibol is the world’s longest reigning monarch.

The 86-year-old king is revered in Thailand, where he is seen as a unifying figure. (dpa/NAN)
