UN KHARTOUM – Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) said on Friday in Khartoum that an international contractor working for the mission had been released by the insurgents after 94 days in captivity.
Mohamed Ibn-Chambas, UNAMID Joint Special Representative for Darfur, said the contractor, Mr Irfan Jaffery, an India, was taken to the Mission’s hospital in Al Fashir for medical checkups.
He said Jaffery, who appeared to be unharmed and in good health, would be flown to Khartoum and back to his home country as soon as possible.
Ibn-Chambas expressed the Mission’s gratitude to the government of Sudan, Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Services, the governor of North Darfur and the government of India for their assistance in his safe release. (PANA/NAN)
