Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and former Nigeria’s Finance Minister Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has mourned the death of Herbert Wigwe, his wife and son who died in a helicopter mishap on Saturday, February 10.
Okonjo-Iweala, in a tweet on X expressed sadness over the death.
It would be recalled that Ogunbanjo, the chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group also died in a plane crash in the United States on Saturday, February 10.
She tweeted: “Terribly saddened by the news of the terrible loss of Herbert Wigwe , Group CEO Access Bank @HerbertOWigwe , his wife and son as well as Bimbo Ogunbanjo in a helicopter crash.
“My deepest sympathies and condolences to the Wigwe family, the Ogunbanjo family, Access Bank Group employees and Management @myaccessbank and my younger Brother Herbert’s partner Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede.”
“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,” she prayed.
Sundiata Post recalls that the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, has reportedly died in a helicopter crash along with his wife, son, and a former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, Abimbola Ogunbanjo.
They are reported to have been en route to Boulder City, Nevada from Palm Springs, California, on Friday night when the helicopter conveying them crashed at about 10 pm, near a small town in California’s Mojave Desert.
Authorities said they have not been able to locate any survivors, and the cause of the crash remains unknown. The U.S. National Transportation Board has sent a team to the site to investigate the accident.
