ZARIA – Abubakar Buba-Maude, the Chairman, Interim Management Committee of Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has promised to renovate and upgrade two stadiums in the area to boost grassroots development.
Buba-Maude made the promise shortly after a friendly football match between Kaduna United and Zaria Nasara FC on Sunday at the Kofar Doka Zaria football field, in honour of him.
The Chairman, who was represented by his Vice-Chairman, Lawal Ahmed, said: “Promoting grassroots sports will virtually open the door for greater youth participation in different sports activities, especially football.
“We are going to improve and standardise the facilities of Kofar Doka and Babban Dodo stadiums to boost the morale of youths and promote football competition amongst them.’’
Buba-Maude observed that sports activities, no doubt, help to foster unity amongst people from different backgrounds, cultures, religions and tribes, apart from its monetary gains.
The LGA interim chairman appealed to youths to take advantage of the facilities to build professional career for themselves in football and other sports activities.
In his speech at the occasion, the former chairman of Zaria Nasara FC and Sarkin Dawakin Zazzau, Babayaro Maude, lauded the foresight of the match’s organisers.
He called on the LGA interim management committee to endeavour to fulfil its promise to encourage active participation in sports.
The friendly football match ended 1-0 in favour of Kaduna United.(NAN)
