Lagos – Some security experts in Lagos on Wednesday tasked security agencies on the training of their personnel in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to effectively tackle the increasing menace of cybercrime.
The experts, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said security personnel should be knowledgeable in ICT to check crimes committed through the Internet.
Mr Oladapo Adeniji, a security expert with Apex Guards, said that security personnel should be adequately trained on how to track criminals using the Internet to scam unsuspecting members of the public.
“Security personnel should be trained periodically on ICT so that they can be ahead of criminals trying to utilise the Internet to defraud unsuspecting members of the public,’’ he said.
Mr Charles Sullivan, Head, Media Operations at Bells Security, also told NAN that security personnel should be enrolled for cybercrime courses to update them on new ways to check cybercrimes crimes.

“There are cybercrime courses which security personnel should be registered for to keep them updated on new ways to check crimes committed through the Internet,’’ he said.
Mr Aliyu Hamza, retired security personnel, said that security personnel should be provided with adequate equipment even after training to effectively check cybercrime.
“Even after training security personnel, adequate equipment should be provided to make their job more effective and easier.
“The security personnel should be trained to function in a way that they are always ahead of the criminals.
“They should be equipped with the latest technologies and trained to track these criminals before the crime is committed,’’ Hamza said.
Mr James Onuora, also retired security personnel, said that security personnel should be given the best of training in ICT as cybercrime is fast becoming a notorious crime in the country.
According to Onuora, private and public security personnel should also work together to share ideas on the latest inventions in the ICT sector which can be used to tackle cybercrime. (NAN)
