prosecutor, Insp. Rita Momah, told the court that the accused, on Dec. 24, 2015, stood as a surety for one Rasaq Jamiu, who was involved in a case of hit and run.
She said the duo entered into a bond to either produce the accused or forfeit the sum of N500, 000 if there was a breach of contract.
Momoh alleged that Jamiu had failed to appear for his case and the accused had refused to pay the N500, 000 or produce Jamiu.
“ They promised to produce Jamiu on Dec. 28, 2015 and every subsequent date he may be required by the police till the case against him is disposed.
“Since they have breached the contract, the police deemed it fit to bring them before the court,’’ she said.
Momoh noted that the offence contravened Sections 137 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Mr F.A Adeeyo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must be blood relations and provide evidence of gainful employment.
Adeeyo adjourned the case to April 20 for mention. (NAN)
