GOMBE – No fewer than 10 political parties have fielded candidates for the governorship race in Gombe State for the 2015 general elections.
The Head of Election and Party Monitoring Department of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, Alhaji Mohammed Dauda, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Monday.
Dauda said that apart from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which had fielded incumbent governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo, as its candidate, other political parties with candidates for the elections were Accord Party (A) and Advanced Congress of Democrats (ACD).
He gave the names of the others as Alliance for Democracy (AD), All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), United Democratic Party (UDP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He said that the 10 political parties had successfully conducted their primaries in the state, adding that the parties had also presented candidates for National Assembly elections.
Dauda disclosed that aside from an incident during PDP’s House of Assembly primaries in Billiri area, other primaries in the state were peaceful.
According to him, the parties adhered to the guidelines for primaries as enshrined in their respective Constitutions. (NAN)
