Abuja – Defending All-Africa Games (AAG) champion, Uche Chukwumerije, tops the list of 16 athletes selected by the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming Games in Congo.
The list, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday by the federation, has eight male and eight female athletes.
Others in the list include -54kg Commonwealth gold medalist, Adamu Isah-Abubakar, and Jamilu Mohammed, who is the AAG defending champion in the -58kg class.
The list also has Edwin Samson in the bantam -63kg, Bright Kolade in feather -68kg and Ayodele Temitope who was selected for the middle -87kg.
Commonwealth bronze medalist, Segun Olushola, was also selected in the -74kg light, while 80kg Sunday Onofe, the 2011 AAG bronze medalist, made the list in the welter -80kg class.
The female category has Jimoh Adesola in the fin -46kg, and Chinazum Nwosu, bantam -52kg.
Fatimoh Abdullahi was chosen to fight in the feather -57kg class, while Ndu Vivian made the list in the light -63kg.
The country’s other representatives include Ifeoma Dennis who will fight in the welter -67kg and Esther Uzoukwu, chosen in the heavy +73kg.
Commonwealth bronze medalist, Uzoamaka Otuadinma, and AAG silver and bronze medalist Joy Ekhator made it in the middle -73kg and fly -49kg class respectively.
Coach of the team, John Victor, told NAN that the team had gone into the final phase of its camping in preparation for the Games.

Victor said the country was targeting a minimum of four gold medals.
He said: “We won two gold medals, two silver and a couple of bronze medals in 2011, but this time around, we want to surpass that record with at least four gold medals.”(NAN)
