Ilorin – Egypt on Wednesday announced its withdrawal from both the men and women football events of next month’s 2015 All-Africa Games (AAG) holding in Brazzaville, Congo.
This is contained in a statement on the website of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the football events of the 11th AAG are scheduled to hold from Sept. 3 to Sept. 18.
The female team was to play alongside Cameroon, Ghana and South Africa in Group B.
Also, the male team was to play in Group B which has Ghana, Senegal and Nigeria.
According to the statement, the group which the forfeiting team belonged shall now be composed of three teams only, due to the short notice of withdrawal.
“In accordance with Article 19 (B) of the regulations, if a team withdraws after having qualified for the final tournament, but before the actual start of the final tournament, the Organising Committee may replace it by the last team it has eliminated, if the circumstances are
favourable.
“But the two teams eliminated by Egypt in the qualifiers, Senegal (women) and Burundi (men), also decided against replacing Egypt due to the short notice

“In default, the group to which the forfeiting teams belonged shall be composed of three teams only,’’ the statement said.(NAN)
