Abuja – Kano Pillars basketball club and national champions Mark Mentors of Abuja have clinched the two spots on offer from their zone for this year’s FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Clubs.
They secured the tickets after finishing top of the six-team Africa Zone 3 qualifier held in Cotonou, Republic of Benin.
Kano Pillars, who also had their player, Abubakar Usman being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, won the competition with a 5-0 record.
Nigerian champions Mark Mentors finished second with four wins in five games.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this year’s ACC will hold in Luanda, Angola from Dec. 10 to Dec. 20.
Kano Pillars and Mark Mentors thus join for this year’s ACC crown Tunisia’s ES Rades, FAR Rabat of Morocco, Gezira of Egypt, ASCUT of Madagascar and Desportivo de Maputo of Mozambique.
There will also be three Angolan teams — Petro de Luanda, ACC reigning champions Libolo and hosts Primeiro D’Agosto — at the competition.
