LAGOS – Mr Bayo Akinlade, a former Secretary, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikorodu, says eliminating corruption in Nigeria should be of utmost concern in political circles ahead of the 2015 general elections. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ikorodu on Wednesday, Akinlade said that corruption was a major factor retarding the country’s progress.
“The corruption rate in the private and public space is still alarming.
“Nigerians should vote people that have plans and strategies to tackle corruption and eradicate it from our social lives beyond 2015,” he said.
The former NBA secretary said that before the 2015 elections, political aspirants must let the electorate know how they intend to eliminate corruption.
According to him, corruption is still pervasive in Nigeria and the nation’s poverty level is tied to her corruption rate.
Akinlade said that the underdevelopment of key sectors of Nigeria’s economy was because of corruption.
The former scribe said that priority should also be given to agriculture to ensure food security.
”An hungry man will be more susceptible to take bribe or bend the rules than one who is sure of the next meal without over-labouring first,” he said. (NAN)
