Jos – Ahead of 2019 general elections, an NGO, Community Action for Popular Participation (CAPP), on Monday organised a day training on voter education manual for stakeholders in Jos.
Mr Nelson Ananze, the Acting Executive Director of the organisation, said that the training was to educate stakeholders with new developments in the current voters’ education manual.
“Election as we all know is the pillar of democracy and because 2019 is fast approaching, there is the need to educate people on the updated version of the voter education manual.
“This training is unique because there are lots of changes in the new electoral act. So the training is to ensure people are aware of the developments in the latest manual.
“This training will increase awareness on the ‘dos and don’ts’ of election because the rules guiding the behaviours of voters during elections will be known.
“It will naturally address the issues of voter apathy, invalid voting and other irregularities that mar the smooth conduct of elections in the country,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training came under the Strengthening Citizen’s Engagement in Electoral Process (SCEEP).
The project was aimed at sensitising stakeholders on the need to participate in the electoral process.
The training supported by UKaid, Actionaid Nigeria and BBC Media Action, had community and religious leaders, youths, women, persons living with disabilities and some Civil Society Organisations (CBOs) as participants.
