Lagos – Johnny Ben, the Director General of the Society for Advancement of Credible Leadership (SOACREL), on Friday urged Nigerians to always uphold their moral values during elections.
Ben told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the paradigm shift in the moral values of Nigerians over the years was responsible for the bad leadership problem in the country.
He urged Nigerians to do a rethink by electing credible leaders in the upcoming 2019 general elections.
“People don’t believe in doing the right simply because they want to make immediate benefit. People selling their vote, for what reason. Just because they want to have that little cash for that moment.
“And if you ask me, that cash will not sustain them for more than one hour and its gone, but because our value system have shown that how can I vote without getting anything.
“The way and manner you select your leaders will determine the way the government will be run.
“So, it is not enough for you to sit back and complain that the government is not doing this and the government is not doing that, you have laid a failed foundation.
“So, expect a failed government but if you lay a solid foundation, be rest assured that you will get credibility for what you voted for.’’
The Director added that the body would hold its maiden national leadership summit on June 14 in Abuja to enlighten electorate on the need to vote wisely.
NAN reports that SOACREL is a registered civil society organisation affiliated to the United Nations, Africa Union and other notable international bodies.
