Abuja – A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Polling Unit ambassadors of Nigeria (PUAD), on Wednesday called on Nigerians to demonstrate peace and unity at polling units during the 2019 General Elections.
The PUAD Ambassador General, Mr Dabas Suleiman, at a news conference in Abuja, said one of the reasons why politicians took advantage of the voters was because they were not united or respecting one another.
Dabas said that the only way Nigeria and Africa countries could be better off was by taking back the power at the polling unit, through their Permanent Voter Cards.
The ambassador general, who stressed the need for improvement of the electoral structure in the country, said that the group had developed a 25-year plan that would promote the power of the electorate across polling units in the country.
“The structure will ensure that politicians will know that there is strength in the polling units and will not take Nigerians for granted.
“Then we will see that those who are not ready to work for the people will not come into politics and it will be left to those that have innovations and plans for the people,’’ he said.
Prince Osa Osaghae, the Secretary-General of the group, said that the body was poised to bring a paradigm shift to the political system of the country.
‘’We want to create a polling unit structural family that is well structured in communities that will give every eligible voter a sense of belonging and a choice of responsible leaders.
‘’The electorates are ignorant of the strength of the PVC they have and they need orientation and that is also a reason for PUAD,’’ Osaghae said.
He urged every eligible voter in the country to key into the vision of the group for peaceful conduct during elections. (NAN)
