Three individuals lost their lives tragically while attempting to retrieve a cellphone from a pit toilet in Yar’Gwanda Village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano state. The victims included a 60-year-old man, Malam Danjuma, known as “Black”, his 35-year-old son, Ibrahim, and Aminu Gaye, also 35. However, Abba Alasan, 28, was fortunate enough to be rescued alive from the same facility.
The Kano State Fire Service’s Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, revealed in a press statement issued on Sunday that the incident occurred in the morning. According to Abdullahi, they received an emergency call from Tsanyawa Fire Station around 11:00 a.m. reporting that four men were trapped inside a pit toilet.
“We immediately dispatched our rescue team to the scene, arriving at approximately 11:15 a.m.,” Abdullahi stated. “Danjuma was initially trapped while attempting to retrieve a cellphone that had fallen into the pit toilet. Subsequently, his son entered to rescue him and also became trapped. Gaye and Alasan then entered in an attempt to save both men, but unfortunately, they also got trapped.”
Abdullahi reported that the first three victims were rescued unconscious, while Alasan was rescued alive. The victims were then handed over to Superintendent of Police Iro Lado at Tsanyawa police division. The police transported the victims to Bichi Special Hospital for medical attention, where doctors on duty confirmed the unfortunate deaths of three individuals and the miraculous survival of one.
