Lagos – An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Monday remanded three jobless men at Kirikiri Prison for allegedly robbing a pedestrian of valuables worth N254, 000 at gunpoint.
The accused — Afeez Shobowale, 32; Jamiu Adeniji, 20; and Sodiq Rilwan, 20 — all residents of Ijaiye on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and robbery.
The accused were arraigned for allegedly robbing the complainant, Mr Oluwaseun Sodipe, of his two laptops and a mobile phone.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, who refused to take the plea of the accused, ordered their remand in prison till the next date of adjournment.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Inuoha told the court that the offences were committed on Dec. 28 at Abiola Generation Street, Alakuko, a suburb of Lagos.
Inuoha said the accused, who were armed with locally made double-barrel gun, had robbed a pedestrian, Sodipe on his way from work.
“The accused waylaid the complainant, Sodipo, on his way from work, pointed a gun at him and robbed him of his belongings.
“The accused collected two laptops and a mobile phone all valued at N254, 000 and escaped,’’ he said.
Inuoha said the accused were arrested by policemen on patrol.
The offences contravened Sections 294 and 295 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both sections prescribe at least 21 years imprisonment for offenders.
The case was adjourned to March 15 for hearing of the bail application.
