President Muhammadu Buhari is currently on vacation in the United Kingdom. He wrote to the Senate on Thursday, January 19, requesting for a 10-day leave.
While in the UK, the president will undergo routine medical checkups.
The presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said there was nothing wrong with the president going on vacation adding that if God needed rest after working for six days, how much more human being.
It is not unusual for a president to go on vacation and it is not wrong either but some Nigerians are angry that he is spending it in another country when they have been preaching ‘buy Nigeria to grow the naira.’
Some are of the opinion that as the leader of the country, he should lead by example and champion the “Buy Naija to Grow the Naira” campaign by spending his vacations in Nigeria and patronizing Nigerian hospitals instead of going abroad in the face of the nation’s ailing economy.
There are enough attractions in Nigeria that are suitable for a short rest and a government which preaches diversification of the economy should patronize these places to encourage the tourism sector.
