Benin   –      A total of 640 Edo youths will participate in a five-day business training to boost their entrepreneurial capacity, Mr Mandela Obaseki, an aide to Gov. Godwin Obaseki, said on Friday.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties and Social Enterprise disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin.

“The youths would be trained on access to funding opportunities, business management and how to be efficient entrepreneurs,” he said.

Obaseki said the business clinic would be held before the end of the year inside the Edo Innovation Hub in Benin, the state capital.

He said another group of 640 youths had earlier been exposed to one-day training on growing small scale businesses in September.

The governor’s aide said the training was being organised by the state Ministry of Wealth Creation, Cooperatives and Employment, in collaboration with the Social Enterprise Office.

“The population of the state is youth-based and the youths form the focus of our social enterprise initiative.

“The initiative is about linking SMEs to organisations with the aim of solving social problems such as unemployment and poverty.

“We have established a working relationship with PRESCO PLC to empower youths with skills on oil palm production and its value chain.

“We are currently building capacity of youths who own micro and small businesses via exposing them to trainings and business clinics,” he said.
