Abuja – A Mararaba Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday granted bail to Linus Samuel, in the sum of N100,000 for allegedly shielding offender.
The defendant, who resides at One Man village, Mararaba, Nasarawa state, was arraigned on a one-count charge of shielding an offender.
The prosecution counsel, Mr A. Adeyemi, said that the complainant, Blessing Mneka, reported the matter at Karu Police Station sometimes in August 2015.
He said that sometimes in July 2015, the complainant entrusted her Opel Zafira Space wagon car YAB 686 AG to Moses Samuel of One Man village, Mararaba.
Adeyemi said that the defendant absconded with the car worth N1.3 million to unknown destination.
He said the defendant stood as surety and promised to produce the car and Samuel whenever he was needed.
The prosecutor said that Samuel absconded with the car and he failed to produce him and the said car as he promised.
He said the offence contravened Section 167 of the Penal Code.
Samuel pleaded not guilty to the allegation, and the Magistrate, Mrs Hafsat Aliyu, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with sureties in like sum.
Aliyu ordered that the sureties must be civil servant on level eight and above and must submit his last promotion letter to the registrar.
He adjourned the case till May 11 for hearing. (NAN)
