Lagos – The Lagos Hockey Five-A-Side League opened on Saturday at the Union Bank Sports Centre, Surulere, Lagos with seven clubs participating.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the clubs are; The Masters, Field Marshals, Dynamics Scoopers, Owopetu United, Indomitable, Ambassadors and Kenroy.
Folabi Awojobi, one of the organisers of the league told NAN that it was organised to engage players in the state.
According to Awojobi, the league will run for six months, while matches will be played every third Saturday of the month.
“The aim of the league is to keep players in Lagos fit and hone their skills through the league.
“Whenever they are called-up for any national engagement, the players will be in sharp form and are likely to be selected to represent the country in international competitions,’’ he said.
Awojobi commended the management of Union Bank and other individuals for making the league a reality, adding that more effort would be put in place to advance the league as it progressed.
In the opening match played, Field Marshals defeated The Masters by 1-0. (NAN)
