Abeokuta – The judiciary in Ogun generated N80million as revenue between January and July, its Chief Registrar, Mr Olusola Oloyede, said on Friday.
Oloyede disclosed this while briefing members of the Ogun House of Assembly Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions, who were on oversight visit to the agency’s office in Abeokuta.
He explained that the revenue was generated from fees and fines at the High Court as well as Magistrate and Customary courts.
“If we have the logistics and more mobile court vehicles, we will improve on our internally generated revenue because we only have one mobile court that we use on sanitation days and it is not enough, “he said.
He also said that the judiciary needed cash backing to execute all its capital projects and pay for overhead expenditure.
The judiciary, he said, would continue to dispense justice without delay in line with the provisions of the law.
Oloyede also added that judiciary would ensure accountability, transparency, strict adherence to professional ethics while ensuring zero tolerance for corruption and corrupt practices.
He expressed appreciation to the lawmakers for their sustained support, urging them to make laws that would bring more development to the state.
Responding, the House Committee Chairman, Mr Adebowale Ojuri, commended the judiciary for the work done so far inspite of the economic challenges currently facing the country.
The lawmaker urged it to do more in the area of revenue generation, saying that the assembly would continue to offer support.
A member of the committee, Mr Akinpelu Aina, gave an assurance that lawmakers would assist the judiciary to tackle some of its challenges.
