ABUJA – The Abuja Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ABUCCIMA) says over N1.5 billion turnover will be generated at the 9th Abuja International Trade Fair irrespective of challenges.
The Chamber also said that over 200 foreign exhibitors were expected at the trade fair starting from Sept. 23 to Oct. 6.
Mr Solomon Yagba, the President of ABUCCIMA told newsmen at a pre-fair press conference in Abuja.
He said that among the foreign participation expected, are Egypt, India, Ghana, Senegal and Burkina Faso.
“We have already recorded participation of these people and they are already on the ground. Also the Taiwanese group, even the Turkish people have also been advertising their products on the social media.
“We have received their expression of interest. It is envisaged that this year’s trade fair will witness more exhibitors locally as well,” he said.
He said that the fair would focus on strengthening small and medium economic growth.
He said that the fair was targeted at promoting accelerated development of commerce and industry.
According to him, it is also aimed at promoting revitalisation and diversification of the Nigerian agro-economy by promoting the nation’s non-oil exports, particularly the agro allied products and mineral resources.
He said that the fair would also focus on how to provide access to resources and technology findings and direct attention to the role of private sector in the Nigerian economy, among others.
He said that measures had been put in place to ensure maximum security during the fair.
“We are conscious of the current security challenges in our country; hence we have been working closely with the security’s agencies in the city to ensure a hitch free trade fair.
“We strongly commend the efforts of the present administration in handling the security situation in the country.
“On a related note, we as well commend the Federal Government in the way it has handled the break out of EBOLA virus,” he said.
He added that the Chamber would also take pro-active measure to compliment the efforts of the government in this regard. [eap_ad_1] He said that the Chamber had on ground a well-equipped medical team with ambulance and other medical equipment that would be used during the fair.
He said that these and many others were planned to guarantee adequate medical care for both visitors and exhibitors.
“We have acquired a dedicate generator to take care of power supply challenges that would sustain the whole fair and new pavilion for the foreign exhibitors,” he said.
He appealed to the government to provide enabling environment and infrastructures toward promoting the right culture, improved competitiveness production and innovation.
“This request becomes necessary as they are veritable tool that can be used and improve the nation’s economy,” he said (NAN)
