Lagos – Wahidi Akanni, a former Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association on Monday described the death of Deji Tinubu as a huge loss to the sport community.
Tinubu was the immediate past Senior Special Adviser on Sports to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos and slumped last Thursday while participating in a novelty match during a retreat in Epe.
Akanni, who made the comment in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos added that Tinubu’s death came as a rude shock to him.

“Honestly, I will just tell you, I was shocked when I heard the news. It’s one of the biggest losses for Nigeria.
“And of course, Lagos being the Centre of Excellence, Deji Tinubu was the main man that connects a lot of sports people together in Lagos.
“I mean, it’s going to be a big loss for Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.’’

Ambode recently redeployed Tinubu to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in a recent cabinet reshuffle towards the end of 2017.
