LAGOS – First Bank Basketball Club of Lagos on Tuesday commenced their preparations towards a successfully outing at the forthcoming Africa Champions Cup of the 2014 Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League Champions
The championship is billed for Nov. 28 to Dec. 7
Ex-international, Segun Odegbami and First Bank’s sports consultant, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that all had been put in place for a successful outing.
According to him, the team will stop at nothing to win the championship which is scheduled to take place in Tunisia.
”We have commenced our preparations for the coming championship, the spirit in camp is very high and we are determined to win the championship.
”We will also reinforce our squad with quality players in areas we know that we are weak.
”The coming championship in Tunisia is a top priority in which the management team, the coaching crew and the players take with utmost seriousness.
“We will train for three days at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium before we proceed to Akure for our camp where we will till we depart for Tunisia,” Odegbami said.
According to Odegbami, the First Bank’s commitment to the progress of the club has yielded good results in the outgoing year; hence winning the Africa Championship Cup will crown the clubs efforts.
First Bank, regarded as the crown champions of Nigeria’s women league basketball, boast of a formidable 10 years in a row championship trophy.
However, First Deepwater Basketball Club of Lagos in 2010 will cut First Bank hold on the league and ascended the throne of leadership and held it till 2014.
Earlier in the year, First Bank, popularly known as the ‘Elephant Girls’ reclaimed their title by defeating Dolphins Basketball Club in Lagos.
At the continental level, First Bank won the 2003 and the 2009 edition of the Africa Champions Cup trophies. (NAN)
