LAGOS – A 30-year-old man, Obinna Elochukwu, who allegedly issued a UBA chegue in the sum of N1,317,000 was on Wednesday brought before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Elochukwu, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of theft.
The prosecutor, ASP Godwin Eze, told the court that the accused had sometime in Aug. 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at the Alaba International market, Lagos, issued the cheque to Mr Livinus Okpala.
`The accused on the said date and time, did unlawfully issue a UBA cheque No. 40247018 in the sum of N1,317,000 to Mr Livinus Okpala,” he said.
According to him, Elochukwu knew fully well that there were no sufficient funds in his account.
Eze said that the offence committed by the accused contravened Section 319(b)and was punishable under Section 320 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr Teslimi Shomade, therefore, granted the accused bail in the sum of
N1,000,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Feb. 18, 2015, for mention. (NAN)
