LAFIA – The Nasarawa State Police Command on Friday denied the involvement of women police officers in the protest organised by some women groups in the state against the abduction of schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno
Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, the Commissioner of Police in the state, made the denial in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia.
He said that the clarification was necessary in order to dispel insinuations that some women police officers in the command participated in the protest.
He said the protest was organised by the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) and the Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Idris said that the presence of women police officers during the protest was to give security protection to the protesters.
According to him, the police have never participated in any protest but follow protesters to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
He said the organisers applied for peaceful demonstration on May 7, and were granted permission because of the global dimension of the incident.
Idris, therefore, called on the journalists to partner with the police in order to guarantee the provision of security in the country. (NAN)
