LAGOS – The family of the wife of the pharmacist who allegedly committed suicide on Thursday demanded the immediate release of their daughter since the body of the deceased had been buried.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Busayo Olafare, wife of the late pharmacist who committed suicide on April 12, has remained in Police custody since the incident.
NAN reports that Oluwaseun Olafare, the deceased pharmacist, was reported to have committed suicide by drinking a substance believed to be harmful to the body.
Mr Babatunde Taiwo, father of the deceased’s wife, told NAN that there was no need to tie the long detention of Busayo to the yet-to-be released autopsy report.
Taiwo also noted that preliminary evidences had shown that Busayo had no hands in the death of her husband.
“We are clamouring for the release of our daughter since the corpse of her late husband has been buried.
“There is no need for the police to keep her in detention and there is no point tying her long detention to an unreleased autopsy report.
“Also preliminary evidences have shown that Busayo has no hands in the death of her husband, it is a clear case of suicide,’’ Taiwo said.

He wondered why the corpse should be released for burial when the autopsy had not been released.
Taiwo noted that the deceased family had denied Busayo and their children the rights of paying their last respect to the deceased when he was being buried.
“It is our firm belief that they have no rights to put Busayo into custody, not to talk of for so long.
“The body has been buried without our knowledge and the knowledge of the wife.
“They have denied the wife and her children paying their last respect to the deceased when he was being buried,’’ he said.
He appealed to the police to release her since she was not going to jump bail.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, has said that the autopsy had been carried out but the result had not been officially sent to the command.
He added that necessary investigations would be carried out as soon as the reports get to the command. (NAN)
