Ogun State House of Assembly on Monday screened the nominees for the 20 Local Council government transition committees in state.
The list of each of the five nominees for the 20 Local Councils in the state was sent to the State Assembly last week by Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
The House screened the nominees on Monday and the State House will further legislate on the the transition committees’ nomination on Tuesday at the Plenary, before the list gets back to governor for his approval on the appointment a five-man committee each for the 20 Local Councils.
About 98 of the nominees appeared on Monday at the State House of Assembly for screening, where they answered questions bordering on eligibility and personality from the legislators.
Two of the nominees were absent at the screening, one of which were said to have stepped down his appointment and has been replaced.
Names of the committee chairmen screened by the house include; Olumuyiwa Odufowoke, Sabitu Olumide, Lola Awoniyi, Muftau Awotola, Wole Tiamiyu for Ijebu East, Ewekoro, Sagamu, Remo North and Yewa South local governments.
Tunde Olukoga, Akeem Fagbemi, Idowu Ojumo, Akin Odusola and Tolani Obakoya for Ogun Waterside, Ipokia, Ado-Odo Ota, Yewa North and Ikenne local governments.
Others include; Mojeed Ekelojumati, Ibikunle Bayowa, Rafiu Baruwa, Olaleye Tajudeen and Olaniyi Opanuga for Ijebu North, Abeokuta North, Ijebu Ode, Imeko Afon and Odogbolu local governments.
Ifo, Ijebu North East, Odeda, Abeokuta South and Obafemi Owode local government transition committees screened by the house were headed by Lukman Adeola, Lordbanjo Deola-Tayo, Segun Adebowale, Olusola Ekundayo, Adeola Akintonde respectively.
Speaking during the screening session, Speaker of the assembly, Hon. Suraj Adekunbi said the screening is to ensure that ‘the right peg is put into the right hole’, just as he urged the nominees to leave up to expectation after confirmation.
“The aim of ensuring that ‘the right peg is put into the right hole’ so as to ensure that the mission to rebuild Ogun State is not derailed. You (nominees) are indeed very lucky to be chosen, among so many stalwarts in the state to the exalted position of transition committee chairmen and members for the third tier of government in the state.
“It is hoped that at the end of the day, each and everyone of you will justify the confidence reposed in you by performing exceedingly well in office by living above board and delivering the best service to your people.
“The transition committees in our various local governments will be charged with the task of fashioning a well coordinated development programme aimed at ensuring the realisation of the lofty dreams of our fore-bearers for the state,” the speaker said.
