The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed receiving a refund of $760,000 in advanced school fees from former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, for his children at the American International School in Abuja.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the refund, stating that the school reimbursed the full amount to the EFCC’s recovery account. The American International School had requested authentic banking details from the EFCC for the refund, stating that $845,852 had been paid in tuition since September 7, 2021.
However, the refunded amount was $760,910 after deducting educational services rendered. The school pledged to notify the EFCC of any further deposits from the Bello family.
Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, disclosed that the former governor transferred $720,000 from the state’s coffers to a bureau de change before leaving office to prepay his child’s school fees, sparking controversy.
