Kaduna – The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Logistic and Supply, Mr Mamman Tsafe, on Monday charged police personnel to adopt positive attitude in order to earn the confidence of the general public.
Tsafe gave the task while addressing officers and men of the Kaduna state Police Command during his familiarisation visit to Kaduna.
He said that Nigerians require a more committed police force dedicated to providing security to the civil populace in the face of current security challenges.
The DIG said that earning the confidence of the populace was crucial to enhancing peace and a crime-free society.
He also advised policemen to interact more closely with people in communities where they live so as to gain their confidence and trust.
On the current insurgency ravaging some states in the country, Tsafe assured that the police would continue to offer support services to the military until the situation is contained.
“We must adopt change in our conduct and face the reality of the security challenges in the country; the level of your commitment must be seen in the performance of your duty,’’ he said.
The DIG, who also oversees the police commands in the North West, assured the personnel that their welfare would be accorded high priority at all times.
He told the policemen that not less than 60,000 houses would be distributed to junior officers nationwide in the next two weeks as part of efforts to enhance their welfare.
Responding to a question on stagnation of traffic wardens, the DIG assured that he would forward the complain of non-promotion to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Shehu Umar, said that not less than 3,598 livestock were recovered from rustlers since the operation was launched against them in July this year.
He said that so far, 20 cattle rustlers had been arrested.

He called for the opening of Area Command Headquarters at Sabon Tasha and Jere as well as divisional offices in Kuyello, Kidandan, Bade, Dakaci, Rigasa and Sabon Gaya.
Umar solicited for more logistics, personnel, improved general welfare for personnel and need to “reintroduce dry ration for men on operation”.
Meanwhile, the DIG has expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State Government for its support to the police.
Tsafe, who visited Gov. Nasir El-Rufa’i, said the support had enhanced security coverage of the state.
“We promise to always be there in terms of providing security to people in the state,” he said.
He solicited the support of the people to security agencies to make the state safe to live in.
Responding, El-Rufa’i appreciated the work of the police in the state and pledged more support to reduce crime to the barest minimum.
He reminded the DIG of the promise by the police high command to deploy 7,000 officers and men to the state. (NAN)
