Umuahia, – Mr Adeleye Oyebade, the Commissioner of Police in Abia, on Tuesday charged police officers to apply the principle of intelligence-led policing in the discharge of their duties.
Oyebade gave the charge in Umuahia during a visit to the state Criminal Investigation Department(CID).
He said that the Nigeria Police Force was determined to ensure the respect of the fundamental human rights of the citizenry and effect changes, where necessary, to achieve efficient policing.
Oyebade said that it was one of the principles the Police was focusing on and urged officers to key into it.
He said that the law stipulated that the arrest and arraignment of any suspect should be supported by the provision of adequate evidence.
According to him, every police officer is expected to respect suspects and avoid any behaviour that will bring the reputation of the Police into jeopardy.
“We will continue to go round to counsel and educate our officers to ensure they fall in line with the vision of the Nigeria Police Force,” the commissioner said.
