Aba – The Chairman of Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Mrs Loveth Ofoegbu, said on Tuesday that the agency would soon engage a foreign company to recycle wastes in the state.
Ofoegbu said during a public enlightenment on wastes packaging in Abayi, Abia that the company would pay the residents to separate and package their wastes properly.
“They will pay you to separate your wastes. You will find out that when you give people a token for waste separation, everybody will be rushing to separate their wastes.
“We are barely three months and we are already doing this, it means that we know where we are going,” she said.
She said that the board was carrying out the campaign to enlighten the residents on how to separate and package their wastes for easy handling.
The chairman said that the state government had approved the collaboration of the agency with a local waste management company, Halfan Cleaning Coy, to keep the state clean.
She said that the agency was working in conjunction with a task force to enforce the plan of making Abia clean.
“We urge the general public to assist us to keep the state clean,” she said.
Ofoegbu said that the agency would supply residents with dumpsters and waste buckets in their respective areas. (NAN)
