Labour Party National Chairman, Mr. Julius Abure, has secured re-election for another four-year term despite facing protests from a faction within the party.
The announcement came from Mr. Ikechukwu Emetu, the Chairman of the National Convention and Deputy Governor of Abia State, during the party’s national convention held on Wednesday in Nnewi, Anambra State.
Abure’s victory comes amid challenges, notably the lack of support from the Obidients, a key constituency in Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential election campaign. Speculation surrounds Obi’s stance on Abure’s re-election, particularly following allegations of mismanagement of campaign funds totaling N3.5 billion by the now suspended Labour Party national treasurer, Oluchi Oparah.
The future performance of the Labour Party, particularly without the backing of the Obidients, remains a subject of keen interest among political analysts.
