Abuja – The founder of Adamark Foundation For Girls (AMF4G), Ada-Mark Ogbole, on Monday in Abuja said 135 female kids had registered for the second edition of the foundation’s camp.
Ogbole told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the six-day training event would hold at the outdoor basketball courts at Package B of the National Stadium in Abuja.
NAN reports that the training tagged “No barrier in sports for girls’’ is organised by AMF4G.
Ogbole said the camp was open to girls of ages eight to 18 and resident within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“We already have 135 female kids who have registered, but we are expecting 150 girls to benefit from the programme.
“Registration is on and it is open to every girl that is interested in basketball.
“All campers are grouped according to age and ability: the mini 8 to 12 years, the cadet 13 to 15 and the junior 16 to 18.
“We believe in using education and sports as tools and strategies for social change and women empowerment.
“We envision a world where girls and women are empowered to be strong leaders, healthy, free of violence and economically independent.
“They will become agents of positive change for themselves and their communities,’’ she said.
Ogbole said the vision of the Foundation was to see a society where every girl has a chance to education and sports.
“We have a vision of a society where girls live in dignity, protected, respected, valued, have choices and are given equal opportunity at life.
“Our theme is `We believe in Zero’ and zero is achievable. Zero is mortality from preventable diseases, zero abuse, zero discrimination to play,’’ she said.
Ogbole said the purpose of the camp was to teach sound fundamentals in a conductive environment.
“Campers will be taught life skills. Topics to be covered include: decision-making skills, menstruation, puberty, and healthy friendship.
