SOKOTO – Mr Solomon Alimashunya, a Sokoto-based lawyer, on Wednesday lauded the decision of an Abuja Federal High Court that ordered Adamawa State Acting Gov. Umaru Fintiri to vacate his seat.
Alimashunya told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto that the court’s decision respected the rule of law.
He said the judgment would strengthen the judiciary in Nigeria.
He commended the judge for being bold and courageous to deliver the judgment which would strengthen the nation’s hard-earned democracy. [eap_ad_1] He explained that the judge had succeeded in restoring hope for the common man.
“He delivered a courageous, sound and realistic judgment which would go a long way in strengthening the capacity of the nation’s judiciary.
He called on the politicians, especially elected representatives, to respect the judiciary for the overall development of the nation.
Fintiri was removed by the court which pronounced his continued stay in office as illegal.
The court ordered that the former Deputy Governor, Mr Bala Ngilari, should be sworn in immediately as the substantive governor of the state since the former governor, Murtala Nyako, had been impeached.
